Carmen Maher learned to work with gold leaf during her career as a professional sign painter in New Orleans, Louisiana. She became taken with verre eglomise, a 6,000-year-old technique of making mirrors from genuine gold leaf. 

Much like BDSM, Carmen’s work is both daring and delicate, an exploration of transparency and reflection. She relishes the poetry of creating a mirror, allowing the viewer to quite literally see themself in her work.
