About these bottles:
These bottles are antiques, some dating back as far as the early 1900s. They have been slowly washing on shore at a small beach in Brooklyn, called Dead Horse Bay. The bay was a 19th century landfill full of glass, which has been slowly washing upon shore over the last hundred years.
Dead Horse Bay got its name in the 1850s, as it was initially a horse-rendering plant where the carcasses of dead horses and other animals from the New York City Streets were used to manufacture glue, fertilizer and other products. The bones were dumped in the water and would wash up on the marshes.
Today, thousands of antique bottles litter the shore - broken and intact, and many over 100 years old. Caroline was inspired to collect some of these bottles and give them new life.
