Niagara Detroit Pop-Up Exhibition
Niagara Detroit Pop-Up Exhibition at Mortal Machine Gallery
Opening Reception March 20 | 7–10 PM
Mortal Machine Gallery is proud to present a special Niagara Detroit Pop-Up Show opening March 20th from 7–10 PM at 938 Royal Street in the French Quarter of New Orleans. The event will take place in tandem with the opening reception for our new group exhibition “Invisible Presence,” making for an evening featuring two unique exhibitions between both locations.
Niagara is widely recognized as one of the most distinctive voices to emerge from the Detroit art and music scene. Known equally for her role as the iconic frontwoman of the punk band Destroy All Monsters and for her striking paintings, Niagara has developed a visual language that blends noir cinema, pop art, and classic pin-up aesthetics with a sharp, psychological edge.
Her paintings often depict enigmatic female figures who are glamorous, seductive, and dangerous, set against dreamlike fields of color. With piercing gazes, dramatic makeup, and cryptic text fragments, Niagara’s characters feel like they’ve stepped out of a lost frame of a cult film, frozen in a moment of tension just before something happens.
Over the decades, Niagara’s work has earned international recognition and has been exhibited in galleries and museums across the United States and abroad. Her influence can be felt across contemporary pop surrealism, underground comics, punk culture, and feminist art movements.
For this special pop-up presentation at Mortal Machine, visitors will have the opportunity to experience a focused selection of Niagara’s work alongside our group exhibition “Invisible Presence,” which explores themes of memory, spirit, and the unseen forces that shape our world.
