940 & 938 Royal Street | New Orleans
Mortal Machine Gallery is honored to present a mini solo exhibition by Swoon in Showroom 2, opening Friday, January 30, 2026, during Krewe Boheme
Swoon is an internationally recognized artist whose work has been exhibited at major institutions including the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), Tate Modern, and the Brooklyn Museum. Emerging from the early street art movement in the late 1990s, she helped redefine what public art could be, bringing hand-cut wheatpaste portraits, intimate narratives, and a deeply human presence into urban space
Working across printmaking, drawing, installation, and large-scale public projects, Swoon’s practice is rooted in storytelling, empathy, and social engagement. Her work often centers on lived experience, community, and ritual, blurring the boundaries between fine art, street art, and activism. Whether installed in museums or pasted onto city walls, her figures carry a quiet gravity, tender, resilient, and enduring
The works presented in this exhibition reflect Swoon’s ongoing exploration of the feminine form as a vessel for memory, care, and transformation. Rendered with intricate linework and layered symbolism, her imagery evokes both myth and intimacy, grounding abstraction in lived reality. Within the context of Violet Femme, Swoon’s work offers a contemplative counterpoint, anchoring the exhibition in humanity, history, and collective experience
The opening reception will take place Friday, January 30, 2026, from 7–10PM, coinciding with Krewe Boheme, inviting visitors to experience the exhibition amid the energy of Carnival season in the French Quarter
