Creating miniature vignettes invokes a sense of nostalgia that’s both tangible and relatable. A viewer can imagine stepping foot into each tiny world, allowing their own narrative to form.”
Devin Drake is a self taught, visual artist from Tennessee. With work spanning through film production to family heirlooms, he aims to give each piece a storied history. Growing up in an area of much urban change, Drake works to capture the nostalgia from years past. Using a wide variety of materials and techniques, Devin creates details that may often be overlooked from the everyday passerby.
In a world of constant change, Devin’s works to captures the feeling of particular times and places - some who may no longer exist. May it be the market you pass on your daily walk or your grandparent’s dining room, everything which has been constructed is destined for change. The places we see through our travels carry the potential of disappearing overnight and he works to tell their stories through miniature vignettes. Invisible footsteps of the people who may have passed through these places become evident once it’s shrunken down to fit in your palm and one is able to hear the sounds of moments passed.
