Nik M Shazmie (b. 1991, Kelantan Malaysia) is an artist whose journey is marked by a relentless pursuit of innovation, exploration, and the unraveling of deeper societal narratives. A pivotal moment in Shazmie’s career came in 2014 when he won the Grand Prize in Nando’s Peri-fy Your Art competition. This victory led to his solo exhibition Home Sweet Home and a residency in Cape Town South Africa, which significantly shaped his artistic development, exposing him to new influences and perspectives. He continued to build on this momentum with another Grand Prize Award in Nando's Perify Your Art 2015 and major achievement in the UOB Painting of the Year Established Category Gold Award in the same year.
Culminated with a Master’s degree in Fine Art Technology from the College of Creative Arts at MARA University of Technology Malaysia, Shazmie’s artistic style is often described as pop-surrealism, stylized portraits and usually characterized by distorted, overlapping subject aesthetics. Inspired by the intricate detailing of Bosch, his works delve into the complexities of contemporary society, addressing themes like the pursuit of perfection and identity crises. Influenced by toys, manga, pop culture icons, and symbols, his creations possess a unique blend of wit, mischief, and layered meanings.
Throughout his career, Shazmie has exhibited both nationally and internationally. His solo exhibitions include Face Fiction at G13 Gallery in Malaysia and The Rojak Wormhole at Secret Fresh Gallery in the Philippines. He has also participated in numerous group exhibitions and art fairs across the globe, including Spring Group with VINS Gallery, Taiwan; Earthly Delights, Secret Fresh Gallery, Philippines; and Terrestrial Paradise, YOD Gallery Osaka in Japan, among others.
